On this Christmas Eve I would like to share my thoughts on a beautiful country where you can buy a Christmas tree in October when the average temperature is about 28 degrees Celsius. I had a chance to go to the Philippines in 2011. I have to thank my friend Edge for being a wonderful tour guide! Without his hospitality I would never seen so much of sightseeing within a short period of time.
Despite the hardship that their country faces, people stay friendly and have a positive attitude towards life. I do not know what is the secret of bliss. On the other hand, I am under the impression that the Filipinos know it. My trip to Manila reminded me that money couldn’t buy happiness. Never in my life I met so many people who stayed kind and cheerful no matter how many problems they had.
In my view, Filipino language sounded very pleasant to the ear. Due to the colonization, the language has many loanwords from Spanish and English. Sometimes, you can guess what people say without actually speaking Filipino.
I stayed in Manila for about a week in October and I was pleased with the fact I could wear my shorts. Manila features a tropical savanna climate. If you are a person who likes to enjoy four seasons, then you might be disappointed. Basically, there are two seasons in Manila dry and wet ones. Humidity level is also high, but, for a person like me, that’s the best weather all year round (except for typhoons).
Manila and other cities have many historical sights along with modern entertainments. As a tourist, you would never be bored. I admired the old architecture, parks, museums and churches I visited. Culture, nature, sport, relaxation… whatever you are interested in, Manila can always provide you with something to do.
It was the first time in my life I saw such a red sky. All the colors in the picture are real.
Food in the Philippines was marvelous (not that healthy, sometimes, though). Delicious meat dishes, fresh fruits, wonderful desserts. Not to mention, the best mango and coconut juices I have even tried.
Craving for some fast food and want to try something local? Jollibee has fantastic burgers. I definitely recommend it! I wish they had Jollibee in Europe…
Manila can be a paradise for shoppers. I founded one of the best and reasonable shoes I have ever had. If I ever can come back and have more money with me, I would not mind going shopping again.
